Promises Made. Promises Broken. Democrats Are Failing to Deliver Stimulus Checks.

Can the American people have faith in government anymore?

It may seem like the American people have forgotten the promises made of immediate $2,000 stimulus checks by Joe Biden leading up to the Georgia runoffs, but we are still all bearing witness to the intensive amount of suffering going on in our country at the moment. After almost a year of a coronavirus pandemic filled with anguish taking over 500,000 lives and millions of jobs, the American government continues to fail in delivering the needs of the people.

Last year’s election was essentially a referendum of the failures of Donald Trump and the Republican Party in the handling the pandemic, but I am afraid that we are beginning to see the same incompetence from Joe Biden and the Democrats, except it comes covered in kente cloths and pride flags. First, we were promised $2,000 immediately. Then, the $2,000 did not even end up in Biden’s relief proposal because we were duped after they claimed the $600 from Trump’s last weeks in office was a down payment and the checks would $1,400.

We settled and said OK, whatever you can give us. But even then the American people are still left waiting—where is that relief you guys were so hyped up about? It couldn’t just be for votes, right? Don’t tell us that—we’d be so surprised.

Yes, most of the progressive left understands the repulsiveness of the Republican Party and their blatant disregard or lack of empathy for their constituents, but how can we not say the same of the Democratic Party? In some cases, the Democrats may be worse in exploiting the suffering of their voters through rampant virtue signaling and making promises they cannot keep. Can you imagine what it must feel like being a single mother who was laid off in Georgia after hearing Joe Biden promise immediate relief, so you go out and vote for Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to only be left stranded with another month of rent on the way?

Where the heck are the Democrats? Why are our leaders not being called out for their impotence?

You cannot tell me that if Trump was reelected, Republicans took control of the House, kept control of the Senate, and we were in the same situation now without relief, that there would not be a liberal outcry on the administration’s failures. Not only that, but we would be hearing about the outright criticisms all over mainstream media and rightly so. However, we must also ask why is the media not also calling out Democrats like they did with Republicans not too long ago?

The longer the Democrats continue to straddle along while having control of Congress and the White House, the bigger the price they will pay come 2022 and it won’t be pretty. We should all look at this to be a sort of revelation into the character of the Democratic Party—neoliberals beholden to the interests of their donors and stimulus checks is surely not one of them. If the utter despair currently going on in our country does not awaken our elected officials to move with a sense of urgency, then almost nothing will.

In that same sentiment, we need to remember this when midterms come around as I am 99.99% sure they will be asking for our votes while implementing fear tactics about what the GOP will do if given control of Congress. And to that we should say N-O. Time for a new day. Time for a new party that works for us.

So, when it comes to Democrats, there’s nothing new here. Promises made, promises broken.

— Peace be unto you.
